Frost and Fall Leaves

This mornings walk was quite chilly with heavy frost attaching itself to everything. These fall leaves, one sitting on the other with the contrasting colors attracted my attention. The white frost attached to the edges added another dimension.

General Vallejo’s Servant’s Quarters

A few weeks ago I had the fun task of helping transport some of my wife’s fourth grade class on a field trip to Sonoma, California for a California history tour of the local missions and General Vallejo’s home and property.

With my interest in small and tiny buildings (see my Tiny House Blog) I really enjoyed several of Vallejo’s outbuildings such as the servant’s quarters shown here. If you are ever in Sonoma, this is a very enjoyable tour and I recommend it if you can take the time to explore it.

Golden Gate Sunset

About six weeks ago I had the chance to join my friend Steve out on his boat and we spent the afternoon visiting and exploring the bay. On the return trip to the Berkeley Marina we were given a very beautiful sunset and it showed off the Golden Gate Bridge and made the water shimmer.

Winter Rain and Red Leaf

While on my walk the other day, I passed this leaf that had fallen recently and been drenched by a recent winter rain shower. I loved the way it’s bright red color contrasted with the brown dead leaves surrounding it.

Marin Headlands Bunkers

On our way down to San Francisco last week we made a stop just above the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands. A short walk takes you to an overlook of the bridge and along the way you pass some old World War Two bunkers. After taking some pictures of the bridge we headed back to the car. The passage way back framed the old bunkers perfectly, so I took a quick picture. I thought it turned out well, what do you think?

Cliff House and the Pacific Ocean

Last week we took a little family trip to San Francisco. One of our stops was at the Cliff House above the Pacific Ocean. The ocean was beautiful and the Cliff House made a cool frame for it. This was one of my favorite pictures of the day.

Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse

After modern counterparts replaced the original fog bell and Fresnel lens at the Trinidad Head Lighthouse in 1947, the Coast Guard donated the historic artifacts to the Trinidad Civic Club for display in a planned memorial park overlooking Trinidad Bay.

Mrs. Earl Hallmark donated land for the park, and in 1949 the club built a concrete Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse, an accurate replica that many visitors believe to be the actual Trinidad Head Lighthouse. The historic Fresnel lens was installed in the lighthouse’s lantern room, and the fog bell was suspended from a wooden frame built adjacent to the lighthouse.

Ferndale No Parking Sign

While at Redwood Campmeeting this last summer, we took a break and drove up to Ferndale to have lunch and enjoy the shops in the little town. I took my camera along to shoot a few pictures and this sign caught my eye.
