This photo was taken in the same area as the photograph the other day. I’ve never seen this type of fungi with such extreme tones and colors. If you look at the log the same colors are in it, so I think it may be mimicking it surroundings.  The light rain also enhances and brightens the colors of the fungi.

On todays walk I was really in the mood to shoot some pictures and really started looking at things closely around me. These are some huge eucalyptus logs that have been sitting beside the road on the way down to the river. The wet texture and the fungi growing on the logs drew my attention. I really like the variety of color both on the log and in the fungi.

It’s been a while since I’ve put anything up as it’s been so rainy and soggy around here I just have not gotten any decent pictures.

I’m pulling this one out of the archives, it is of Mount Shasta taken several years ago on a trip in the far reaches of Northern California. This was shot using good old Fuji Velvia film, my favorite slide film choice.

On my daily walk by the old barn there is this old shed where I shot the old power box the other day. I’ve been trying to catch the light right on this old motor and sailboat and today was the day. I know some will question why I would shoot this in the first place? Personally I like the textures and shapes in the picture and the different colors. Give me your opinion, like or dislike?

This photo was taken the same morning as the train trestle picture I showed you the other day. This is an old tractor someone donated to the camp and I enjoy photographing it each time I am up there. It’s rare though that I am there when a fresh snow falls so I felt very fortunate to get this picture.

This photograph was taken several years ago at a Pathfinder retreat at Leoni Meadows in Northern California in the foothills of the Sierras. A fresh snow had fallen the night before and I was out early walking the tracks and took this picture of the trestle covered with snow. The photo was taken with Fuji Velvia slide film and than scanned.

Digging back into some of my archives here. This photo was taken back in 1980 using Kodachrome 64 on my old Canon F1 with a 28mm lens. I spent a school year back in my college days as a bus driver and teachers aide at the Monument Valley Mission in Utah. It was a wonderful place to take pictures and with my bus driving schedule I had many neat opportunities. This is my version of that famous Ansel Adams shot of the mittens.

On my morning walk with our dog Max, the fog was extremely thick and moody. The picture does not do it justice but it gives you some idea of the fog and moisture in the air.

Something about this picture makes me think of a new year. The way the bridge is peaking over the hill reminds me of new beginnings and fresh starts as we begin a new year.

I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope 2010 is a great year for everyone.

I am enthralled with texture photos and shoot a few myself every now and then. This is the stern of the old Point Reyes Boat and shows the peeling paint and the wood turning color by time and weathering.
